O wyprawie 2009-2012
Sztafeta Afryka Nowaka trwała 813 dni, a udział w niej wzięło 149 osób. Odkrywanie śladów Kazimierza Nowaka rozpoczęliśmy 4 listopada 2009 roku, w Boruszynie, w gminie Połajewo – tam też zakończyliśmy sztafetę, 11 stycznia 2012 roku. To społeczne „pospolite ruszenie” zostało docenione przez Kapitułę gdyńskich Kolosów w 2012 roku – otrzymaliśmy wówczas Nagrodę Specjalną, za wyprawę będącą wydarzeniem „unikalnym w skali Polski i świata”. Tego samego roku otrzymaliśmy Travellera od wydawnictwa National Geographic Polska.
W 2010 roku z inicjatywy uczestników i fanów sztafety zawiązało się Stowarzyszenie Afryka Nowaka, które kontynuowało organizację sztafety, równolegle propagując postać i historię Kazimierza Nowaka w Polsce i za granicą. Od 2012 roku, w Boruszynie, Stowarzyszenie Afryka Nowaka organizuje Plener Podróżniczy im. Kazimierza Nowaka, podczas którego spotykają się nie tylko rowerowi fani polskiego podróżnika, a wszyscy ci, którym podróże Kazika są bliskie, bez względu na wykorzystywany środek lokomocji.
Cele i misja wyprawy
- Oddanie hołdu wielkiemu polskiemu podróżnikowi
- Popularyzacja postaci Kazimierza Nowaka i jego dokonań w kraju i na arenie międzynarodowej, w tym także wśród mieszkańców Afryki. Uważamy, że warto pokazać światu, iż jeszcze przed II wojną światową był człowiek, który w niecodzienny jak na tamte czasy sposób poznawał i opisywał afrykański kontynent, przedstawiając kulturę jego rdzennych mieszkańców z należnym im szacunkiem, co stało w sprzeczności z obowiązującą wówczas kolonialną ideologią
- Propagowanie idei realizowania własnych marzeń oraz rozbudzanie podróżniczych pasji w duchu aktywnego wypoczynku
- Popularyzowanie Afryki – jej piękna, różnorodności, innego tempa i prostoty życia, jako alternatywy dla komercjalizacji świata
Jak
Zamierzamy możliwie jak najwierniej powtórzyć trasę, którą przebył Kazimierz Nowak. Marszruta będzie podzielona na etapy pokonywane w formie sztafety. Przemieszczamy się tak, jak Kazimierz Nowak – głównie na rowerach, a na niektórych etapach pieszo (ekspedycja na Ruwenzori we wschodnim Kongu), konno (w Namibii), pieszo (w Demokratycznej Republice Kongo), czółnem (rzeką Kassai i Kongo) oraz na wielbłądach (Sahara w drodze powrotnej).
Łącznie szacujemy podział trasy na 24 etapy, realizowane w ciągu ok. 2 lat. Wystartowaliśmy 4 listopada 2009…

Afryka Nowaka posiada oficjalną rekomendację wydaną przez Departament Afryki i Bliskiego Wschodu MSZ:

The mission and goals of the expedition:
• To pay tribute to the great Polish explorer, Kazimierz Nowak
• Popularization of Kazimierz Nowak and his achievements in the country and internationally, including the Africans. We believe that it is worthwhile to show the world that, even before World War II there was a man who in an unusual, in those days, way explored the African continent and described it. Who presented the culture of its indigenous peoples with due respect, which was in conflict with the colonial ideology.
• Promotion of the idea of making dreams come true and awakening passion for travel in the spirit of the recreation
• Popularization of Africa – its beauty, diversity, different speed and simplicity of life, as an alternative to the commercialization of the world
We intend to repeat, as faithfully as possible, the route which passed Kazimierz Nowak. The expedition is divided into stages covered in a cycling relay. We move on exactly like Kazimierz Nowak did – mostly on bicycles, but in some stages on foot (expedition of The Rwenzori Mountain in eastern Congo), on horseback (in Namibia), by canoe (on the Kassai river and on the Congo river) and on camels (in the Sahara desert on the way back). We estimate the distribution of route into 24 stages, carried out in approximately two years. We started on the 4th of November 2009…
